(The woman who stands up now looks bedraggled - and very tired)
You ask me where I've been for the last few meetings. I have just one word. Sick.
Not me.....at least not at first.
The first one to get the flu was my mother, who is, at 81, and with 65 years as a smoker, not a good candidate for success with pulmonary events!
So I was taking care of her, because my father, even when he was younger, is not good around sickness. And then of course, he got sick. They had their shots, but then you hear on the news, only 10% effective. Do I get my time back for dragging them to the doctor for their shots? I don't think so!
Then my family gets sick - my husband, then both kids - even though they're teenagers, they couldn't move to do anything for a week! So it's all me. And little by little, everyone gets well...... And then, as they start to get well, I get sick. But there is no one left to take care of me!
And I find myself wondering....what if I got really sick.....like with something serious.....who's gonna be there holding my hand? (Laughs) Dare I even say the words? What about...me?
(She sits and the others nod in agreement)
