Monologue Mania Day # 1419 Unasked Questions  by Janet S. Tiger (c) Jan. 2, 2018

(A woman stands - she is originally from Maine, and it still shows in her clothing, how she walks, and especially her accent and the way she stands tall.)

Well, I have a question for everyone here......Listen up!  I'm starting my very own polling - unofficial of course, but I want to find out from all of us.....we go to a lot of doctor appointments, right?

(She listens as the others respond, then she nods)

I figure, an average of two appointments every week to make sure our loved one is taken care of properly......sometimes it's more than two, other weeks, perhaps we get a break and there's only one.....but for the sake of argument, which I love, two a week, that's one hundred every year, counting two weeks off for holidays, which is never the way it works because teeth start hurting and falls happen especially on those weeks, but for the sake of counting fast, 100 a year.

In ten years, that would be.....1000.  And there are how many of us here.....7, 8....times 1000......that's a lot of appointments represented.  A big number......and even bigger if you count the millions of other caregivers all over the country.....

Now for the question......how many times, in how many of those appointments....has the doctor ever turned to you and asked......oh, caregiver, how are you doing?  We hope you're ok, because what happens to our patient if something.....happens to you?

Show of hands please.......do I see one hand?  One doctor....somewhere...in 8000 or more appointments.......

(Looks around, there is nothing, she shakes her head)

I have asked many other caregivers....and the answer is the same as here, now.......Zero.. ....Not one.....nowhere......Zero......now that's a mighty big number.......

(She goes to sit down, stops)

But of course there's an easy explanation for why not one doctor asks.......it's because everyone knows.... we're all doing just fine!

(The others laugh.  Not funny really, but they laugh as the lights dim on her.  End of scene)
