(Young man comes to the front of the stage and looks out and then up)
God? I imagine since I'm supposed to believe in you you can hear me, right? I mean, you're up there.....listening to everything. Wow, either you have a lot of ears, or...a lot of recording machines!
(He walks around the stage, clearly troubled)
God, all my friends smile all the time, and so do I , because they want me to, and I want them to be happy......but I'm not happy. You might have noticed that. Maybe not......no one does. Except maybe my grandmother.....she looks at me like she knows....everything.
But my parents.....they're too busy to notice. All they're worried about is how it looks......how it's going to look when my dad runs for governor.......
How can I talk about things with them? They don't want to hear......and how can I talk when.....(hard to say)....when I'm not sure myself......
(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)
If you made me who I am, then ....I can't be all bad, can I?
(He shakes his head and his shoulders slump as he exits.)
