Monologue Mania Day # 1184 Caregivers Dance (for Caregivers Anonymous) by Janet S. Tiger (c) May 12, 2017

Not sure where this will go - but thanks, Sue, for the start of it!

(Ann comes forward and takes a hat and cane, treating them as a performer does, bowing to the others.)

And now, my friends......we are returning to our show.   It's  an ongoing production, a play with music -mostly circa 1940's!-.  Some dancing.  A fair amount of movement.  Some of it bowel......  Repetitive lines.  Runs pretty much 24/7.  The reviews -- mixed -- keep coming in from a variety of un-informed sources......

You see ladies and gentlemen.....we have the next attraction - the Caregivers Dance!

My mother was lucky - she didn't have cancer, or diabetes, or even a broken hip!  She just had a bad case of....old age!

She was able to get around slowly......but she got around!  And she needed help, and that help was ...me.  Moisturizing dry skin, helping with shoes, and zippers and all the odds and ends that get harder with time......letter writing to friends who don't write back because they've died and no one told us.....

How does the dance go?  Like this....

(She kicks her legs as high as she can and singsthe music from the can can)

.da, da, da, da, da, da da da da da da da da  dada da da da.,.....dada dada da ......

You wonder why this particular dance?

Haven't you figured it out?

The name is the CAN- CAN!

What is it caregivers do?  We CAN - CAN- do everything!

(The others join her singing as she dances off to their laughter - end of scene)
