Mmmmmm! Still delicious! And there are no twists tonight - no strange stories with odd endings, finding out we were secretly separated at birth ....or we started a cake company...... or that our husbands had been having an affair....no, this story is just about two friends....... but it is more than just friendship, it is .......about the cake....and the frosting.....
(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)
Because you can have it......you can have your frosting.....and eat it, too -

Monologue Mania Day # 1180 And Have it, Too.... by Janet S. Tiger (c) May 8, 2017
And Have it, Too....
a monologue by Janet S. Tiger
(A woman in her 50s enters, carrying a bag, from which she lifts a cake box.)
We were brought together like the nursery rhyme......Jack Sprat would eat no fat, his wife would could eat no lean, and so betwixt the two of them - they licked the platter clean!
(She sits and opens the box with reverence, taking her finger and scraping some icing off the top. She looks around)
My friend Cindy pretends to complain when I do that, but then I eat the rest of the frosting and leave the cake for her!
That she does NOT complain about......wow, that's a lot of frosting under the bridge!
(Laughs, remembering) We met at camp when we were six, and we were in different cabins, but when we had cake, her cabin would laugh at her because she would leave the frosting over, and my cabin would laugh because I would leave over the cake......
(Laughs, remembering) We met at camp when we were six, and we were in different cabins, but when we had cake, her cabin would laugh at her because she would leave the frosting over, and my cabin would laugh because I would leave over the cake......
It became a running joke between us - somehow, we bonded over ...cake! So we would meet, every few years, since we lived in different cities, and we always tried to meet at a place with good dessert! And we would laugh .....and then we found a place - the name was actually...Let Them Eat Cake!... with the most wonderful artistic desserts, and we started going back there, and after our...oh, umpteenth time, the owner came over and told us ...the cake was on the house!
Well, we've decided when we get too old to travel, we are going to send each other the remains.....I'll send her the cake....and she'll send me the frosting......
Consistency - that's why we liked each other. We may have been odd, but we were very dependably odd - she still likes the cake, and I like the frosting.......
(She takes her finger and another big swipe of the frosting, smiling and licking her lips)
(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)
Because you can have it......you can have your frosting.....and eat it, too -
(She exits to a world of balance - but hopefully never the end of cake!)
