Monologue Mania Day # 1203 All by Janet S. Tiger (c) May 31, 2017

The last two monologues were also about All - Day #1201 All the Same
                                                                             Day # 1202 All I Wanted
So today, it's all about.....

                                                      All
a monologue by Janet S. Tiger
                                                (c) all rights reserved (c) 2017

         (Actor enters, arms wide)

All!  What an inclusive word!  All!

All in the Family!  Know it all!  Jack of All Trades!   All dressed up and no place to go......all for one....one for all....all the best!......all that glitters....all wet......all worked up......free for all!......I'm all...ears!

        (Grabs ears)

You can't be all things......even if you want to be.....on all fours.....  all the way to the bank......in all probability....  ....all wet.....all talk and no action....All systems are go!  (smirking)...going all the way.....for all I know....which isn't much.....all things in good time......all out....all told....all work and no play.....all walks of life......

     (Stomping feet)

All the rage!

       (Saddens)

All in the same boat.....

       (Takes out handkerchief, wipes eyes)

.All for the best....   and then....all over but the shouting.....

All the way home.....

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)

End all.....

       (Exits - that's all folks!)

-------------------------------------------
This is an extra monologue - not sure if it is ready yet.  Feedback appreciated!

I Forgot to Take My Memory Test
a monologue by Janet S. Tiger
                                                (c) all rights reserved (c) 2017

           (Actress enters, she is thinking)

I know I'm forgetting something.  What is it?

My daughter remembers something I told her from 15 years ago - something I said that was mean, that I knew was awful as soon as it left my lips.  If I could have sucked those words in, I would have, but no, they are stuck in her head.

My husband said something mean to me last week - and I cannot forgive or forget yet, so I bring it up whenever I am mad at him.

Today when I brought up his words - which, in a few weeks, he will not remember - I thought, I sound like my daughter! She brings up what upset her from years ago, and I bring up what upset me from before......how amazing!  ........ I wonder where she got it from......

(She turns to leave, stops, looks at her watch)

I remember!  I forgot to take my memory test!

Monologue Mania Day # 1202 All I Wanted by Janet S. Tiger (c) May 30, 2017

                                              All  I Wanted
a monologue by Janet S. Tiger
                                                (c) all rights reserved (c) 2017

(Young woman, dressed punk, tatoos, wildly colored hair)

I just love the look on your face when I do something wild.  Like when I cut off my hair and you freaked!

Or when I painted my nails with skulls, oh, boy, that was fantastic!  You were always so proper, so eveything has to be in place, it made my day to figure out some way to drive you nuts!

Purple hair, running away with that guy I just met, oh, that was classic.  You shoulda been an actress, Mom, because you got such an expressive face......

       (She illustrates)

Yeah, it is worth all the pain, like when I slashed my leg and the blood was dripping all over your nice white carpet......just like a movie scene.

      (Makes a horrified face)

And you cried right on cue when the ambulance came..And then when I took the pills....

(Throws up her arms and makes another face)

But all I wanted .......was to see your face when you found me dead.  That's all I really wanted.

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)

That's why I'm waiting - I'm afraid, maybe I won't get to see it........I would hate to, you know, and then...not get what I wanted.....

(She leaves, but does not truly exit - we hope)

Monologue Mania Day # 1201 All the Same by Janet S. Tiger (c) May 29, 2017

                                              All the Same
a monologue by Janet S. Tiger
                                                (c) all rights reserved (c) 2017

         (Actor enters, looks around)

If it's all the same with you......but is it?  Is it all the same?  Do you notice every day is different - or has it become ....all the same.

How do I know what is real?  I mean, I woke up this morning after driving 16 hours - and now I'm in another state.  But I can see my home out the window.

They took me to a motel, but the amazing thing is.....the furniture looks a lot like my own living room.

Or does it?

It's not the living room I grew up in......but is it the same as yesterday's room?  It's confusing.

I have a friend who calls me every day.  This is a friend I know for a long time.....I think.  But sometimes, I can't remember his name.

Or where we met.  He still remembers.  I think.

When I got upset about being in a different state, my children came over.....and they crawled through the window.  Same as when they were little.

And gave me a pill, and now I feel better.

I know I'm home, not far away.  Same home I've lived in for thirty years.

Same furniture, no one crawling through the chimney like Santa Claus.

I was in a different state though......the state of confusion....or was it the state of delusion?

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)

Same place I was ......last time I forgot my pills.

       (Exits)

Note to readers - some readers (you know who you are!) have noted that I have resorted to using the same monologue more than once  - I  prefer to think of it as bringing back favorites (like I did for this Memorial Day weekend), but do not want to quibble.  Just wanted to point out that out of 1201 days, I have also posted over 30 one-acts - between 3-10 pages each.  So - if I count each one-act as at least two monologues - am still being fair in my count!    And for those who want to discuss (argue?) that some of the monologues are the same....please see monologue above for my response.......And thank you all for reading!

Monologue Mania Day # 1200 Thank you note (for Memorial Day) by Janet S. Tiger (c) May 28, 2017

For Memorial Day Memories please see Day # 1199 - for all those who gave all we say a big thank you for your sacrifice so that we may live in freedom!

                         Thank you note.....

(The writer - that's me! - comes onstage.)

This is a thank you note to people I never met.....only know about through my father's stories.

He grew up in a neighborhood, in the days before World War II, where friendships lasted lifetimes.   When my father and his friends enlisted, they were the ones sent onto the beaches, into the air and the trenches to fight to save people they didn't know.

And some did not come back.  Out of his twelve closest buddies, nine returned.
 \
I thank them for their service, and for the service and sacrifice of all those across all these many years who gave - and will give - their lives so that I can sit with my dad and have a delicious hot dog and some fried chicken on Memorial Day.

And I thank my father for giving part of his life, part of his youth, during those difficult times.  And I thank him for sharing the stories of those who are not around to share our bounty.

On this Memorial Day, and on all days, rest in peace.

(The writer exits....no more words for now.)

Monologue Mania Day # 1199 Memorial Day Memories by Janet S. Tiger (c) May 27, 2017
                                   Memorial Day Memories
                                          (for the Senior Channel)
                                                by Janet S. Tiger

(An older man comes onstage.  He is in uniform and marches proudly, albeit slowly, turns sharply and salutes the audience.)

The Senior Channel has allowed me to come and address you on this Memorial Day.  This is a first for the Senior Channel, as I am the first dead person who will be speaking to you.  From what I have seen on this channel, probably not the last, either!  You see, I died last week.  Today, Memorial Day, they are burying me in the local Army cemetery.....through the magic of television and these newfangled recording devices,  I have something different to say than you will probably not hear at all the parades and picnics and celebrations.

You see, I am not going to talk about all of us dead ones, although I will confess, we do appreciate hearing about ourselves.  No,  today I am here to honor those who did not die, but did give - and continue to give their lives.

When I entered the service, the man in charge of training us - Sgt. Edgar Kaminski was his name - he told us something I have never forgotten - every one in a uniform gives their life.

It was more than a little frightening to  hear that, but then he explained.

Some of us would give the rest of our lives - by being killed in battle or from the result of wounds incurred thereof.  But the rest of us - we would be giving our most precious gift, that of our time, our lives, one year, two, twenty, sixty-five - because by serving, we were giving our days, weeks, months........years .......to preserve the freedom that others had also worked to save.

If we lived through what we were about to go through, and many of  my friends did not, we were being honored on Memorial Day just as surely as all the others who did not live to see these parades and celebrations.

So, if you see a soldier in uniform today - or any day, for that matter - please tell them you appreciate their gift of their life - so that you can live your life in freedom.

They will appreciate - on that, you have my word.

(He salutes.  Turns to go, looks back)

At ease.....commence to hot dogs!

                   (He exits.)

A big thank you to all those who have given -and continue to give - their most precious gift, their lives, so that we can have a great Memorial Day in freedom!)
