(The set is simple, bare to start, with only a vague outline of a community.  One is a store, another is a building with a pagoda-like steeple seen in a shadow.  The Asian woman who comes out is older, holding a small planting pot.  This is Grandma B, for Big Grandma, the great grandmother of the clan, and although small, she is very powerful still.)

We come to this country with very little.  See this pot?  I have it from very beginning of our years here.

It has seeds from Bac Ha.....your name is Elephant Ear.  Seeds small, but they grow big plant...this pot too small after awhile, need bigger pot.

(In the background, the outline of the buildings start to fill in with more details)

Use Bac Ha for many things......secret recipes pass down from many generations.  In Vietnam, we live in city, Saigon.....have bakery....more than one.  Family have bakery many years.  Famous for cat tongue cookie......After war, we get sent to country, to farm.  Bakery hard work, but farming, more hard work.  Every day, we pray to escape.  Hard times.

But always hold onto to Elephant Ear seeds......good for making cookie taste special......so when we escape, we know one day, we will have place to make cookies....  also, take some gold, that help get us started too......

Finally get to America.  More hard time, but better than farm in Vietnam.  Much better.  Start baking with children, sell cookies to neighbors, save every penny, then get loan from family council, open bakery......very successful.....

(A sign is seen Elephant Ear Bakery)

Help start church in neighborhood, small to start, but very nice......

(The church is now clearly visible in outline)

(Sad)......same everywhere....most people nice, get along, but some people.....not nice.....

(A red light is seen behind the church)

Some people need to make hate....make bad for others.....

         (She looks at the pot)

Trouble like seeds.......start small, but you give enough water, trouble grow......

(The red light is brighter, glowing, vibrating .....the church is on fire)

They wait to tell me that church burn down....wait until morning so I can sleep....but I cannot sleep, I see the fire in the sky......it reminds me of other times of trouble.....

(She turns to leave, stops, looks back, bows head, then puts the pot on the ground.  Blackout.)
