Monologue Mania Day# 362 by Janet S. Tiger  Generation Infinity Feb. 9, 2015

                                            Generation Infinity

(A young person enters, a little hesitant at first, then stands up straight and faces forward.)

Hi, I'm sure glad that the Senior Channel is allowing young people to express opinions.  I mean, I think it shows an open- mindedness and all.  Not that old people, I mean, older people, are all close minded, don't get me wrong.  I have a very cool grandfather.  He's the reason I'm here.

You see, he read something and told me that a lot of people his age don't understand.  I mean, that people our age, younger people, have a lot of stress.  After all, it's not the depression, or World War II, or Vietnam or the bomb we're facing.

We are having to deal with something no other generation has had to face.  They call us the Millenials.  I was born in 1995, I am twenty, and what we are gonna call ourselves is the truth....generation infinity.

That's right, not our imagination....reality.  Everyone under the age of 50 might just have a damned.....I mean, darned good chance of living to a thousand.  And those over 50, about a fifty fifty shot!  So why is this stressful?

Think about it.....not one other generation had the thought that all the problems of the world would be our problems....forever!  Everyone had a chance to die - and escape the future!

Is global warming right?  We are gonna find out!  And soon!  So yes, we care a lot about our environment!  And food, the food we eat, that is different from ever before.  Two hundred years ago, people ate the same foods that were eaten up to about fifty years ago.  Now, we have food that has been changed......by us.

And what about babies?  What other time has allowed people to choose whether they are going to be parents....and of what type of child?  Three parents for one childis now possible, not two.  Some children created without sex!  In test tubes......it's what science fiction told us was going to be!

So what's the big deal, right?  No death, right?  Wrong!  Death is still here, only now, we .....get to choose.....much more than any other time!

It's scary! What if....nobody dies?  We'd have to make peace with each other or else we'd end up killing ourselves!  And what about our pets?  Will we get to keep them forever?  How will we support ourselves?  Or will we figure it out?  The pressure is insane!  And that's what our generation is feeling- the pressure of a new era.

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)

The thought of maybe living for a thousand years.....with our parents!

           (Shudders, exits...to the future.)
