Monologue Mania Day # 1361 Time Change (for the falling back) by Janet S. Tiger (c) Nov. 5 , 2017
A monologue by Janet S. Tiger © all rights reserved tigerteam1@gmail.com
(Actor comes out onstage with a watch, listening to it)
A person I loved gave me this clock for a present. I have always loved it, because it reminded me of the good times we had together.
Why am I listening to this? I don't know.
It's broken. It doesn't make a sound. And worse, it never made a sound. It's digital. So it could never make a sound. Maybe I listen because of wishful thinking, that maybe if I could hear it going 'tick-tock' that it could be repaired.
But since it's broken, so there's no way it can move....or change.
So it is.....useless. The time changed and it stopped. But of course, time is not what changes. We do.
(Takes the watch and shakes it)
I just found out that someone I thought I could trust, someone I believed in, someone I...loved......couldn't be.....trusted, believed in.......loved.
(Takes the watch, shakes it)
(sings) The times they are a changing......
Did the times change? Or did I?
Will I have a change of heart? Or will time change my heart?
Can I buy some time now? Or......turn my heart back like a clock?
Can I ever get that hour back? Or is the springing forward permanent......
(Starts to walk off, stops, looks back)
Or...instead of falling back, now I just get to....fall apart.....
(Exits, another hour lost, another friend gone)
