Monologue Mania Day # 1368 Death and Taxes (For Benjamin Franklin play)by Janet S. Tiger (c) Nov. 13, 2017
Death and Taxes
A monologue by Janet S. Tiger © All rights reserved 2017
I love these things! Oh, if I were alive today, what I could do! And if I were alive today, I would revise my original quote.....which I made after we finalized the Constitution. Because - although I had many dreams of what the future was to hold, I have to be honest, I never thought of all the changes that were coming!
And if I were alive today, I would be working - along with the scientists trying to live forever - on how to make longer life not just longer, but better!
And I would be figuring out how to save our oceans, make them clean again! Because in these oceans may be the secret to endless life - the jellyfish that have been alive for a million years!
(Turns to leave - stops, looks back)
And I would change my famous quote - because now, the only thing in life that is certain - is taxes!
(He exits to a world with endless possibilities - but always taxed!)
-------------------------------------------
Our new Constitution is now established, and has an appearance that promises permanency; but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.
— Benjamin Franklin, in a letter to Jean-Baptiste Leroy, 1789
