(Actress enters, she is smiling, but a bit hesitant)

What's the answer?  Am I having a party?  Let me tell you, but first, the apples.

Bobbing for apples.  Right before Halloween, or on it if the holiday fell on a weekend,  my mother would do these parties for my friends.  And when all the mothers took everyone to a  scary movie for Halloween, my mother would do the traditional Halloween events, like  the gummy worms in a box where you had to reach in your hand and it was all gooey and disgusting.

And she would wear this big old witches hat and get dry ice and have a bubbling cauldron.  But, really, the bobbing for apples thing, that was so old.  And so were the apples, especially after sitting in the water for a few hours!

And yet, all my friends would like our parties because they were, well, there was a lot of fun along with the old-time stuff, and maybe, when someone protested bobbing for apples, maybe my mother did tell them, 'Just be grateful it's bobbing for apples, not 'bobbing for road apples'

Some of the kids didn't know what a road apple was, so my mother had a book with pictures, and she would show them!  If I wasn't embarrassed already, well, that would finish it off!

Then one party, a boy I liked was there, he was from the next grade up, Bart, and he was cute, and....when he was bobbing for apples, he came up with an apple, then he dropped it, and he kissed me!  And he ran away.....but that was my first kiss, and when he finally asked me out in high school, I said yes, and I have been saying yes ever since.......so you asked me if I'm gonna have a Halloween party this year.....the answer is....yes!

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)

And will we have apples or road apples....well, come on over and see!

           (Exits to some Halloween fun)

Sorry this is a week past Halloween, it got lost in the shuffle!

Sounds fun. My mom did this kind of old-fashioned thing, too.
