Monologue Mania Day #551  by Janet S. Tiger  Aug. 17, 2015

                         Drawing the Line

(The actor enters, arms crossed in a huff)

Okay, here's the deal - I am through.  You heard me, I am not waiting any more.  I have been in this line for....how many years has it been?  Maybe just a few days.....okay, two hours!  But this is it, I will not be roped into doing this anymore.....I have waited with you forever, for tickets for concerts, and movies, and sales on shoes and iphones, hell...I think I even waited for Godot!

And I have been rained on, and boiled like an egg on the hot asphalt.... and had people yell at me and curse at me, and someone even peed on me!

       (Laughs, remembering)

Well, maybe it was because we were sleeping in the doorway...and maybe it didn't hit us, but still!  It's just too much!  I'm getting too old for this!  I mean, we're gonna be thirty in a few years!

So here's what I'm gonna do......

(Takes something out of a pocket and leans to the ground, draws a....you guessed it, a line)

I am drawing the line here!

So if you want to stay, go right ahead....be my guest!  Because, I am outta here!

I can't even remember what we are waiting for!

         (Listens)

Of course I'm going to the bathroom!   And yes, I'll get you a soda!  Jeez!

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back, listens)

Because if I didn't draw the line someplace......how will I remember where I am?

(Skips off.....still waiting..... for a good line)
