Monologue Mania Day #  1698 Scary Stories (for Halloween) by Janet S. Tiger (c) Oct. 10,  2018

(Part of  the countdown for Halloween - only this is..... the real scary stuff)

(Actor comes out, dressed for camping, sits on floor with a flashlight under the chin aimed up at face.  Smiles and leans into the story)

Once, right in this very neighborhood, in these woods, was a family.....and they were not afraid of anything...not murderers with axes, not killers with chainsaws.....not snakes in the lake....not even the fear of running out of food during a campout!.......no this was a fearless family!

Until.......one day......when they had a visit from.........the mailman!

Oooh......they had no idea the horror that was coming!  Because, in his bag was something that struck fear into a fearless bunch......yes, it's true, they discovered that they had been sent a letter from....

       (shivering, gets up looks around)

horror of horrors!......the IRS!

Now, at first they were not so very worried, I mean, who would think five letters would strike terror into the hearts of such brave folk.....but there it was....A...U.....D....I......T!

And so it began......and by the time it was over.....well, suffice it to say.....it was not pretty!

A warning to all......be afraid, be very afraid.......of the mailman!

(Turns to leave, stops looks back)

For he can delivereth......hell!

(Flashes the light on and off while exiting......to more true life terror....courtesy of.....the government!)
