Monologue Mania Day #  1690 Another Scary (for Caregivers Anonymous) by Janet S. Tiger (c) Oct. 2,  2018

                                     Another Scary

(One of the members comes to the front of the group, turns their back, then when they turn around they have on vampire fangs)

Ooh, scary!

(The others laugh and the actor remove the fangs)

I just was at some theater and they were doing scary stuff for Halloween - it was for my grandkids - they loved it but me, I watched and was stunned by one thought - none of that fake stuff is scary to me!

Everyone in this group knows REAL scary!  These fangs...

          (Waves them around)

If they were real teeth - either dentures or a partial - if they get lost, whoa!  How scary is replacing that?  Thousands of dollars scary!

And things that go bump in the night?  Do we know about that or what?  One of our loved ones goes bump in the night and that means- red lights and ambulance sirens!  Or at the very least, ice and bandages and xrays and trips to the doctor!  And not just one doctor, but the primary, and the orthopedic guy and the guy with the boot if its broken and......just how tired you get, well that can be very scary!

And do we know fear!  The real kind, the kind that comes with loving people, and taking care of them, waiting for the results from a biopsy for three weeks because it's....the holidays!
We can't hide from cancer in the basement or blast a broken hip with a laser gun!! What keeps us up is worrying not who's out to get us, but how're we gonna pay for all this stuff.......

(Turns to go back to seat)

Perhaps there is one truly big fear.......what do we do, when we don't know what to do?

(The others nod and the actor puts the fangs back in.)

Happy Halloween!

(The others applaud as the actor gives a true Vincent Price laugh.  Lights down, end of scene)
