Monologue Mania Day # 1492  1492 by Janet S. Tiger (c) March 17, 2018

Please note - this is Day #1492 - if anyone is wondering where I got the idea for today!

                                                   1492

A monologue by Janet S. Tiger

(Actor enters with  a board over his head that reads 1492)

Here it is folks, the number that inspired the famous words-

'in 14 hundred ninety-two, Columbus sailed the ocean blue'

Two immediate problems with this - one, the ocean is not blue, at least not all the time.  Sometimes the ocean is gray, or green, depending on algae growth and cloud cover.

Second problem - Columbus.  That's right, Columbus is a big problem.  He was not a great guy - he is credited with finding the new world, but hey, Leif Erikson did that centuries before.  And Columbus is also credited with starting the slave trade.  That is true.  And killing off the natives.  Whoa!    Why even say anything nice at all about him?  In fact, it's time to take away his holiday!

You heard me - why give this guy a holiday of his own?

And while we're at it, I have some interesting info on a lot of other holidays, too.  Some of these Presidents, hmm, not perfect.  There's some front page news - nobody's perfect!

In fact,  I have info on a lot of folks that - after I tell you all about them, heck, they don't deserve schools and libraries named after them, let alone universities and stadiums, yeah- we gotta do a lot of renaming here!

And I've only just begun - wait until everyone hears that our buddy Picasso beat up all his women!  They're gonna take his paintings off their walls and rip them up!

This is why it's important to go searching through the past, to unearth all the trouble every person had, because when I'm done, and the truth be told......a lot of statues are gonna fall!

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back, takes something out of his pocket and holds it up)

Now this, this is a stone - nah, I'm not gonna throw it!  But as soon as I find someone without sin....I'm gonna start a new statue for them!

(Exits to a not so perfect world)
