Monologue Mania Day # 1493 Just by Janet S. Tiger (c) March 18, 2018
Just
Kind of a monologue by Janet S. Tiger

Just a moment of your time
You won't notice - who does?
Come on - it won't cost a dime!
That's what they tell you....
But the truth is really that
Just is just a word
That hides the very fact
That everything costs something
That time is never free
That 'just' is an illusion
In a land of make- believe
Because just when you are thinking
That you've got lots of time
Just when you start to believe
You'll write the perfect line
Just when you have settled in
To count up all the clover
Yes, just then is just about the time
You realize.....it's all over
So please do not be fooled my friend
By words like 'just'....or 'only'
And you will find, in your own mind
Just enough time to .....be

As an editor, I try to cut every "just" I find in a manuscript. Most can go and not hurt the text at all!
