Going Through

(Actor enters with box and a garbage pail, puts onto floor)
When someone....dies, you go through a lot of hard stuff, and part of the hard stuff is just going through....stuff.....
(Takes out some files)
Now some of it has to be saved, for taxes, and estates, and the government and who knows why! But most papers, they can be recycled.
(Throws the papers into a pail, stops, holds up a shirt)
Now, getting rid of clothing well, clothing is personal....you can remember the person wearing it,.....When you were having lunch with them, dinner,
(Dances with the item)
........having fun at a party.....laughing at a funny movie....... crying at a funeral.
(Stops and examines the item, then sniffs it)

Even if it had been washed, the clothing still has a certain smell, maybe the perfume, or the sweat, or the....soul of the person comes through, whatever a dog can sense from a mile away, you can sense if you put the material right up to your face......
(Sighs)
And breathe deeply.... because going through these things, helps you ...when you're going through ......these times.
(Takes the shirt and exits, folding away the memories)
