Monologue Mania Day #515 Drawing a Blank by Janet S. Tiger  July 12, 2015

This is a very visual monologue, with a lot of action that should engage the audience.

(Carrying an easel, the actor sets up to draw, taking the charcoal and examining it very carefully.   The actor looks at the audience, holds up a finger as if measuring, then almost touches the canvas, and stops.  This continues in various forms, with the artist dropping the charcoal, picking it up, scratching, doing everything possible but none of the attempts to actually get something on the canvas is successful.)

Mmmmm......

(The actor smiles and takes a deep breath)

All this time and I'm done!  It's done!  I'm so happy!  I captured exactly what I wanted to do.....and perfectly, if I may add....

(Holds the canvas up proudly - it has nothing on it.  Bows, takes the canvas to leave, stops, looks back.)

Isn't it obvious?  I was ....drawing a blank!

(They exit......and you might have guessed I have drawn a blank as to anything else to say tonight)
