(Actor enters, running at top speed, stops, breathless)

They're catching up!  I know they are!  But I can't run anymore!  And I know they're going to catch me!  And they're going to kill me!

(Runs throughout the audience, all over the stage, in horror, backs away)

Oh, no!  Oh, no!  They're here!  (Screams)   AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!

(Falls to floor, shudders, then gets up)

And then I wake up.  And it's just a dream.  But such a scary dream!  Really scary!  Worse than any when I was a kid, because when you're a kid, you have no idea what could happen, but now, I know what could happen - and it's....REALLY scary!

(Breathing deeply, then takes one deep breath and calms)

They tell you to take a deep breath, and maybe it helps.  And the doctor said .that the whole purpose of dreams is to clear up the crap in your head, like housecleaning.....get rid of bad thoughts and things that are underneath.....he also said that no one dies in a dream because your subconscious won't allow you to die......and so....you wake up instead.....

I guess it was supposed to be reassuring, that it was supposed to make you feel better.

And I said to him.....how do you know?   I mean, if they kill you in the dream, and you die because of it.....and never wake up......how would anyone know?

And he looked at me and said.....I never thought of that......

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)

So the next time they're chasing you in the dream....maybe you better run faster!

        (Looks around, sees something)

Is this still the dream?   Oh no!

(Screams and runs off.  To a new nightmare)
