Monologue Mania Day # 1250 Cell Hell by Janet S. Tiger (c) July 17, 2017

                                 Cell Hell     (c)

(Actor enters furtively, with a cell phone hidden on their body - in an odd place, finds the phone and punches some buttons, stands at attention)

If you can hear me, all is lost.

We are the last ones alive.....we have truly been taken over by the machines, and those of us still able to communicate will have to build a new world.....a brave new world.

                (Looks at phone, shakes head)

Okay, maybe that was a little plagiaristic, but hey?  Who the hell cares?

We are the ones who must make the jokes!  The ones whose shoulders it has fallen upon, and we must be like those heroes in the past!  We must survive!  We must fight the takeover phones on the malls and in the libraries, in our homes and in our schools!  We must never surrender!

We have entrusted our entire civilization to these devices.....and the reaping of the whirlwind is upon us!  We must sharpen our scythes to fight back!  How many are left!  Please send a text while you still can!

(Looks at phone, shakes head sadly this time)

Twelve?  Is that all there is?  Only twelve?  We can't do it!  We cannot stand up to the phones!  We must capitulate!

              (Sobs)

But before I go, one last.....

(Looks at phone, shakes it, nods head)

Oh, well, everythings ok now....just a momentary glitch in the cloud!  Everything's fine....

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)

Or is it?

(Exits punching numbers into phone, the future is here!)
