Monologue Mania Day #919 Next (opening from the movie) by Janet S. Tiger (c) Aug. 19,  2016

                                               Next
(Not)     A monologue by Janet S. Tiger  (c) 2016 all rights reserved
                                                              tigerteam1@gmail.com

(A young man is seen walking, playing a game on his phone, listening to something on earbuds.  The credits can be seen with the music from the earbuds playing.  As the credits end, there is a disturbance in the music and the man stops, takes the buds off and shakes his head.  He looks at the phone and his eyes widen.  He puts the buds back on and takes a deep breath.)

V-O

I see I have your attention now.....

(The phone is visible and we see part of a person who is tied up.  Crying is heard)

You like games....so do I......we're going to play one now....listen closely.......

You recognize the person on your phone......

(The young man is breathing faster now)

And you don't want anything to happen to them, do you?

(The young man shakes his head 'no')

Very good!  I saw you shake your head....

(The young man looks around, there is no one close)

Idiot!  I can see you through your phone!  And you have something stuck in your teeth....you really should floss after you eat.....

(Unconsciously the young man rubs at his mouth)

You got it!  Very good, we are connected......now listen closely.  And don't try to throw your phone away.....because then I'd have to do unpleasant things to my guest.....you wouldn't like that, would you?

(The young man shakes his head again)

So here's what's going to happen, my friend......you are going to be playing a game called....Next.

Here's how it works......look around.....see anyone?  Maybe in the distance?

(There are some people walking a block away)

Well, the next person you see....oh ...this is such a fun game........the next person you see.......
....you get to kill.....

(The young man drops the phone, screaming is heard from the phone and he grabs it quickly
We hear him muttering)

Don't do that again, Eric......you almost missed the best part!  You see......you only get 30 minutes to do this......see the next person, find a way to kill them, and then.....wait to hear from me.........couldn't be simpler!

(The young man looks around, he hears a police car approaching, moves to wave at the car)

Do you really want to find out what happens if you don't play this game?

(A scream is heard from the tied up body and Eric stops, puts down his arm, stares at the phone)

Good boy......now here's the timer......

(On the phone we see 30.00)

And here are the rules - and don't worry, I play fair....I won't change the timer, the time is controlled by Google and Greenwich and ...just like on Family Feud, the clock won't start until I finish speaking.....you will have a full 30 minutes....but you must kill the next person you see.....

             (Eric turns his face down)

You can look down all you want, but in 30 minutes.......

(On the phone we see bullets, an explosion, fire)

You get the idea....now here are the rest of the rules.........there are none.....I don't care how you kill the person, it doesn't matter, as long as I watch.......and then.....after the person is dead....I'll be in touch......you don't have to worry about a thing.......I take care of the rest......contacting the police, the publicity......so you see, I'm very fair.....this is all very simple..........all you have to do is.....kill the very next person you see.  There...simple as pie......now......I will allow one question, so, pretend I'm a genie....an evil genie perhaps, but you get one question.....so....your turn.....

             (Eric tries to collect himself)

ERIC- How will you know I did it?

I'll know......because you will have the phone with you, and you won't turn off the sound or else.....

(The bullets, explosion, etc.  is heard again, same as before)

So here we go, my friend......counting down.....Next!

(We see the number 30.00 is now 29.59....29.58.....and the look on Eric's face is horror.  End of scene. )
