Monologue Mania Day #915 by Janet S. Tiger (c) Aug. 15, 2016
Pencil Shavings
A monologue by Janet S. Tiger (c) 2016 all rights reserved

.
(The actor enters with a pencil in hand, holds it up and examines it)
Obsolete.
They say the pencil is obsolete, but I don't think so.
(Takes out a cell phone)
You see, maybe there are other ways to record things....to keep track of ideas, and news and phone numbers and...people.....
(He waves the cell phone, puts it away, and takes out a small book)
Remember the address book? I still like to use.....it's private. No one can hack in....and when it comes to making sure you can erase something...
(He opens the book, takes the pencil and rubs something)
(He blows the shavings away, closes the book)
There. Twenty years.......gone with the wind.....
(He turns to go, stops, looks back)
And that's why I keep the names of my friends.......in pencil.....
(He takes the pencil, turns to wipe his eyes....then breaks the pencil and drops it, exits)
