(A nice-looking woman in her 50s stands, with a bag filled with notebooks, she takes the bag and puts it into the wheelchair, faces the group)

My mom loves to read.  One of the first memories I have of her, is reading to me.  And reading herself.  Every day, my Dad would come home from work and she would have him be in charge so she could get what I now know were the only 15 minutes a day she had to herself!

She would take a book, and sit outside, and I would ask her why she didn't want to take her 15 minutes and walk or talk to friends.  She'd tell me - 'I love to read'

She also loved to keep journals....and every day while we played, she would write in these old notebooks.....

(She picks up one of the notebooks and flips through)

Our whole lives were in here.....the parties, the graduations.....the visits.....(sighs) even the fights!....all here.....

(Deep breath)  I found my mom reading these the other day....she looked so happy.  I guess she discovered a big pile in a closet that hadn't been cleaned out in awhile.

Her face was one big smile.....and she turned to me and said....'Look what was hiding in that bottom drawer in the hall!  Someone who lived here wrote all these journals!  And they're so interesting!  Even though they're old, they're like brand new!  Better than the romance books!  Oh, I'm so glad I discovered them!'

(Almost in tears)  Her journals, her life......I thought of telling her, but, what would that accomplish?  So, I sat with her, and I read them to her......and we had a very nice afternoon.....

(She picks up the bag of notebooks, turns to go back to her seat, stops)

How was your day?

          (Lights down, end of scene)
