(An Asian woman in her forties is now in the spotlight.  She is smiling.)

My turn!  I love it when it my turn!

Everybody ask me why I was not here last week, now I tell story.

For new people, I add a little so they know.

My name is Sissy Phu, Oh, sorry, I know I have to say only first name, but I forget sometimes!  So busy taking care of people, memory is bad.  You see, I take care of father, who is old, and mother, who usually take care of father, but fall down two months ago, so I have to take care of both now.  No problem, I love mother and father very much.  I am oldest, so I was expected to take care of sisters and brothers, children, now parents.  I have three children, 6, 8, 10, and we have donut shop, parents start, I run now.

Children work now in Donut Shop.

(She cups her hand over her ear)

Did someone say .. Child labor law?  Vietnamese child labor law very simple, say, you have children, they do labor.

          (She looks around the group)

But no one here from child labor right?  What we say here, stay here, right?

(The others all laugh, she smiles)

So I busy lot of time, donut shop, parents, children.  I work hard so brother and sister can go to college....not easy, but we have old register, no computer, not record every 50 cent donut sold, so we save lots of money, not always tell Internal Revenue Service!

         (She cups her ear again)

Did someone say.....tax evasion?  No...I pay lotsa tax money!  Just need some for college.....and no one here from IRS, right?  What we say here, stay here, right?

(The others all laugh and clap, she smiles)

Brother live far away, sister live far away.  I take care of children, parents, run donut shop, my sister, she very smart, have not one, but TWO college degrees.  She tell me that I need to stop helping everyone, just say, NO HELP.  My sister good at saying No Help - she say it all the time.

I always help - I like to help.  But others tell me same thing.  Take vacation.  Not have vacation since before youngest was born, six years ago.  Before that, can't remember anyhow. So I arrange to have little vacation.  Just things I like. Two nights, three days at casino, and I going to watch those basketball guys, the Harlem Globetrotters! I love them, so funny!  So tall!

(She looks up as if staring at them, smiles, then remembers)

Hard to arrange, but I set it up.  Then sister tells me, she is moving back to nearby....very good!  She coming same day I get back.  Good, I say to her, then I can help you.  No Help!  she say, I don't need help!  But I tell her, you will be tired, you will need help, I will help.  No Help she says!

So I start to pack, get all ready for vacation.  Mother better, help with father.  Bags ready.  Get phone call from sister.  Help!  She is coming two days early, needs help!  She had to be out of old house before cleaning, need to leave early.  Help!

I listen, and I have disappointment, have to change plans, no vacation, have to help sister, how many sisters I have, only one!  Not be selfish, I can change plans, have to miss Globetrotters...... am almost ready to say yes, then I remember.....my own sister advice......so maybe, this time I listen!

             (Imitates herself on phone)

I love you, but...... I going on vacation!

             (She smiles and shouts)

No Help....for you!

(She holds up her hands in victory)

NO HELP!

(Lights freeze on her, then blackout.  End of scene)
