Here's my question for you, Isaac....if this number, the square root of negative one is, as you call it, imaginary, how can you do anything with it at all? It says here....
(She holds up the clipboard)
That if you MULTIPLY the square root of negative one BY the square root of negative one - then you GET negative one!
How can that be possible? I mean, if the number is imaginary, how can it do ANYTHING AT ALL?
(She listens, shakes her head)
That makes even less sense! I can't do this ! And if this is supposed to make me learn how to think, well, why would anyone want to think about numbers that are imaginary? I mean, really!
(She turns to leave, stops, looks back with a big smile)
Wait a minute, I just had a revelation! - it's not just the square root of negative one that's imaginary....you see I know something that is real........ALL numbers are imaginary! (She looks at Isaac) And maybe we are, too!
(She laughs as she exits to the real world. Lights down as Isaac shakes his head.)

That makes even less sense! Why would I need to know all this in order to do HIGHER mathematics? I can't do this class! And if this is supposed to make me learn how to think, well, why would anyone want to think about numbers that are imaginary? I mean, really!
(She turns to leave, stops, looks back with a big smile)
Maybe you do have a point, I just thought of something - it's not just the square root of negative one that's imaginary.....I got it...ALL numbers are imaginary!
(She exits to the REAL world)

This kind of thing makes my hair hurt...Not the monologue, but the concepts therein...
