(Woman enters, she is all dressed up - like a much younger woman, nice dress, hair done well - and wearing sneakers.)
Hi! Thank you for coming to my Sweet Sixteen party! My REVERSE Sweet Sixteen that is!
I never had a real Sweet 16 - we were moving. My Dad was in the Army, so we moved every year or two - always on my birthday!
So, by the time we got settled in, I was almost 17!
But today, I am the reverse of that - I am 61!
And this dress is the dress I might've worn that day!
And this hairdo is exactly what I wanted to wear that day!
And I am having a big cake and ice cream and all my friends - I mean the ones that are still alive and not taking care of aging parents or watching grandchildren or that are well enough to come - are invited, just like you!
So come on, you're the first guest, let's get started -
(Listens, looks down at her sneakers)
No these are not the shoes I would've worn then.......
(She lifts a bag and brings out a pair of very high heeled shoes)
THESE are the shoes I would've worn! But now, if I wear them, I might just break a leg!
(She turns to walk off, stops, reaches into a pocket)
But here, have a beer! That's one of the advantages of being a reverse 16!
(Exits laughing and drinking)

How funny--my friend Neil turned "sweet 16" this weekend in Palm Springs.
A very good year, '61.
