Monologue Mania Day # 1406 Can't by Janet S. Tiger (c) Dec.20, 2017
                                    Can't
a monologue by Janet S. Tiger (c) all rights reserved 2017
                                                         tigerteam1@gmail.com

(Older man comes in slowly with a cane, looks at the audience, he has very sad eyes)

Why am I quiet?

Simple.  Don't know what to say.

When I was a kid, my dad taught me, my word was my bond.  If you say it, you have to do it.....

When I was a kid my dad said..... never use the word  -can't.

I never want to hear you say the word - can't.

Can't is for losers.  If you want to be a winner, if you want to be... my son.....I never want to hear you say.....I can't.

(Looks at audience, rests hands on cane)

You asked me to do something.  To climb those stairs.......well, maybe now you understand why I was so quiet......

I refuse to say the word ....so maybe I can say it like this ...(very hard to say) ....at this point in my life.....I am .......unable to climb those stairs.........

There, that does it.......

         (Looks up)

Was that good, Dad?

(Shakes his head, exits while he still can)
