Monologue Mania Day #1073  66 Days (for Inauguration Day) by Janet S. Tiger (c) Jan. 20, 2017

       (An older actor emerges, salutes)

Today was a special day.  A day that has happened only 61 other times in the history of the world.  And no, it was not my birthday!

Today was....inauguration day.

In the 241 years of this great land, there have only been 62 of them - and only 39 different men have had that day.

62 Days.

Definition - the formal admission of someone to office.

Six Presidents did not receive this days - because they were never elected.  They ascended to the office because the President died.....or  in the case of Gerald Ford....because the President resigned.

I myself have watched more than a few of these inaugurations.

Some of them, I have voted for the person who took the oath - others, not.  Most of them took office peacefully.  Yes, there have been protests, including a little altercation known as the Civil War.....but overall, our nation has changed its leader......peacefully.

Each election is special, but these last two have been amazing.  We elected a man who, 50 years earlier, would not have been able to get a seat in many restaurants in the same country. And this election, a woman, who, 100 years before, could not even cast a vote, won the popular vote.

What an amazing thing it is to watch....and remember....and .....

I hope to get to see more of them....but one thing I can say.....whoever is elected, they become President of the whole nation .....and whether I helped elect them, whether I like them or not......they become....my President.

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)

And God be with them to help them do right.......on all the days.

(Exits, to a new President - a new time, and we pray for our country)
