Monologue Mania Day #1062 No Mistakes (for Caregivers Anonymous) by Janet S. Tiger (c) Jan. 9, 2017

                                     No Mistakes

(The woman is well-preserved, looks younger than her 60s, and she is nicely put together, smiles as she stands and goes to the wheelchair, sits in it, sighs)

So. what I say here is confidential?  Really?

           (The others reassure her)

I guess since this is my first time here, I can tell you why I'm here.....and why I look so rested.

(The others respond with 'yeah, how do you do that?' and 'you do!')

It was recommended I come here.....by my doctor..... and my psychiatrist.  They think it would be a good idea to.....talk with other caregivers.

I hope it works out better than their other suggestions.....one was not to worry about making mistakes....the other was to have a glass of wine before I go to sleep.....Ha!

(She gets up and wheels the chair around)

Attention.....amazing how no one gives much attention to those of us who are taking people to therapy for years....and we never miss a day, unless the patient is sick.....which you work hard to make sure there are no mistakes in THEIR medicine.....and THEIR food....and THEIR appointments.....because after all, if you complain, what kind of an awful person are you?  After all, look at the poor soul in the wheelchair.....

             (She indicates the 'person')

How could I  be irritated?  How could I  be so selfish to complain?  Am I not grateful for the fact I can walk?  What kind of bitch am I?  Well, I must be a bitch because I'm the unmarried sister, no family to worry about......so this is a gift, taking care of parents.....it's not right to complain....it's a MISTAKE to be complaining!

Which brings me back to mistakes.....

(She walks away from the chair, is quieter)

Maybe they told me not to take wine with my meds, but I was tired.....maybe I forgot.

And maybe I had ...more than one glass.....maybe I had....two.  Or three.....and maybe I forgot that I had taken my sleeping pills already.....so I took them again.  Accidental.  I will say one thing,  Those lawyers on TV are right.....accidents can pay off! I had three nights in the hospital, my first days off in over three years!  And then my rich brother finally paid for some help for our father, ...... and they even gave me a week in a special hospital with ....therapy.

(She sighs heavily, goes to sit in her chair)

But between us here....

(She waves her hand at the group)

It was no mistake......

(The others nod as the spot hits her, then blackout)
