(The visitor watches then stands, goes to the wheelchair and sits)

What we remember......what we forget.

We put our friends and family into places when they can't remember.....when they can't remember things, and faces, and how to act in public....how to use the bathroom.....but the last time I visited my aunt.....she talked to me about something that happened 40 years ago, when I was a young man.

It was at a wedding, and I was there.  My sister's wedding.  She was 20 - I knew because I was 15.  I knew it, like I know the back of my own hand.

          (Holds up his hands)

But would I recognize these hands?  Not sure.

All I know was that my sister was 20.....I could have sworn it.  My aunt remembered differently.  Your sister was 21, that's why she could get drunk!  Remember that?

I did.....it was one of the highlights.  My prim, proper sister, who blushed so easily, she had too many glasses of champagne, and she was tipsy.  No, that's not true, she was smashed!

And my aunt kept saying my sister was 21, and finally, I called my sister....

       (Picks up phone, listens)

But, Sis, are you sure?  I coulda sworn you were just 20......so all these years, I thought you were younger than you are....sorry!

       (Puts phone away)

So i was wrong, and my aunt, who has advancing dementia....was right.  But she's the one in the special place, and I, I walk around, a free man.  For now.  If I forget more, will I join her there?  And will I be able to recall when I got married.....wait, I never did......oops.....Where's the line in the sandbox?

(He stands, takes a deep breath)

What we remember, what we forget.

(He returns to his seat......I think he did.......maybe I'm wrong)
