(Young woman enters, dressed in graduation cap and gown, she is nervous)

Last, I just know I'm gonna be last!  They put me almost at the end, but people behind me are going and my name has not been called!  Why does this take so long?  Isn't it bad enough you have to go to a million classes that last for a billion hours!  But this graduation seems to take longer than all of them!

Why didn't they do this in alphabetical order?  My name starts with an N, right in the middle!  But no!  They had to do it first come, first served!  So how could I help it if my car stalled two miles from here and I went to the wrong place!  Why did we study alphabetical order if they don't even use it when they're supposed to!  I mean, the computer can do it easy!

         (Getting very upset)

What am I going to do?  I've worked so hard to get here!  Was there something wrong with the application?  They told me I was ok, but I had trouble reading those 22 pages of instructions!

Did I forget something?  To turn in a paper?  To pay off my library fines?  To put my tassle on the correct side?  Was it supposed to be right or left?  Oh, I will never live through this day!

And if they don't call my name, all my friends and family will think I ran out!  Which I almost did, but they don't know....well maybe they did!  Oh, how long is this going to take?  we've been here for a thousand hours!

Wait a second.....is that the person right in front of me?  Is that my name,oh MY GOD it is ME!  After all these years, it's me!!!!!

(She runs through the audience and comes back on stage, smiling, holding her diploma case.  She waves wildly at the crowd, taking a bow)

You like me, you really like me!

(She turns to leave, stops, looks back)

Okay, I know you like me because you don't have to sit through another six hours, but I can revel for a moment!

(She stands up on tiptoes holding her diploma case over her head like Rocky, smiles and exits.  Congratulations to all those graduating this time of year  -that means you, my beautiful daughter!- and to all who helped them get to this wonderful point.)
