Monologue Mania Day #1134 End of the Rope (for Caregivers Anonymous) by Janet S. Tiger (c) Mar. 22, 2017

                                                       End of the Rope

                                                    a monologue   by

(Jeannie walks over to Valerie, puts an arm around her)

JEANNIE -   First you say maybe…you want to kill him.  Then it’s just torture….well, I have
another view, …you have a problem, and it has nothing to do with death or torture...it has to do with life....your life….am I right?

(Valerie turns away)

JEANNIE -  You think you’re at the end of your rope, and having been to that point myself  ..I
understand….

(She looks at the others, Clark nods)

JEANNIE – We all do…….you have to take the rope and make it into a lifeline.
(Remembering) I was taking care of my uncle, who lived an hour away, and my mother, who had just broken her hip.  I was getting maybe two, three hours a night sleep.  My eye was twitching so much the doctor sent me to a therapist, and she asked me, what was I doing for myself, and I told her, I come here, and I talk to you…..and she said ‘one hour every two weeks is not enough- what else do you like?’  I told her I liked to eat chocolate.....but also, I loved to draw, so I started drawing, and.... it didn’t make anyone young, and it didn’t cure any illnesses, but... it helped me…it was my truth….. now you….you need to come to your truth….We can help you….

(She indicates the others)

JEANNIE -  But you have to be honest!  You have to tell …the truth….

          (Scene continues)
