                                                 A monologue by
                                                    by Janet S. Tiger

(No actor, no pretense, this is me talking)

This third year of monologues draws to an amazing close in an exciting way as today I have been at the last rehearsal before the first public performance of my new play CAREGIVERS ANONYMOUS.  Which started in this blog - one monologue years ago, added to over these three years, and now - a total of over 70 monologues!  The seeds for a show that will be seen by audiences all over San Diego County - and maybe one day, the world.

And so, one year ends, another of monologues begins.  There are those who think I'm nuts (other words heard to describe me - crazy - insane - certifiable) Yes, hard to believe, but they think to keep writing one a day for another year is a bit ...odd.  Okay, everyone thinks I'm ready for the looney bin, but let's not quibble over numbers.....because the numbers here are simple - 3.  Three years.  If I look at the bigger number - 1096 monologues - it gets a bit more....well, bigger.

But it really all boils down to 1 - one monologue a day.  Or a one-act that I use the monologues from for a few days.  Or a scene from a play.  One.  The unity of one.

Which brings me to the question everyone is asking - how crazy am I?  Will I continue for another year?

The answer - no.

There.  Some will be stunned, others happy, most -especially my family! -relieved.  But wait, there's more!

I have decided that....one year is easy.  One thousand monologues (bicker about the specifics if you will, whether you subtract the duplicates or however you count the one-acts, it's a whole big bunch!) is now ....easy.

So I am no longer worried about getting to next year....oh, no, that would be.....too simple.  My new goal.....one million monologues!  There, I've said it.  (I can hear the men in the white coats coming!)

But first, think about it.  It took only three years for the first 1000 - to reach one million would take a thousand more three years.  That's only......click, click, click goes the calculator in my brain, a bit slower than when I was 25, but still, that means only 3000 more years to go!  And since an ongoing concept in my plays has been THE END OF DEATH  I feel this is but a mere continuation of my theme!

And here's the bigger question - where will you be in a thousand years?

(I turn to leave, stops, looks back)

  Still reading these I hope!

(I exit, laughing, to another 999,000 monologues to go!  thanks for keeping on reading - hope you enjoy!  And for those sticklers, you are correct, technically, it is 1,000,000 minus 1096= 998,904, but who's counting?  Oh, wait...maybe I am.....see you tomorrow...)
