Monologue Mania Day #970 Days of Some Awe by Janet S. Tiger (c) Oct. 9,  2016

In between the Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur which define the start of the New Year is a time known as the Days of Awe.

(A rabbi comes out, dressed formally, with a suit, and wearing a yarmulke - skullcap- and tallis - the fringed shawl worn for religious services involving reading from the Torah.  He is holding a child's telescope.)

Days of Awe.  We are right in the middle and I know everyone is expecting a long sermon tonight, but I am going to surprise you all - one paragraph, okay....maybe two.... but less than five minutes!  I promise!  And it's simple...... I wanted to share what my youngest just illuminated for me .....

(He puts the telescope to one eye)

We start each new year with a clean slate of sorts......supposedly we have gone to family and friends and apologized for any wrongs committed.  Ideally, if we have made errors in business, dealt unfairly with others.....we have fixed these mistakes.  Of course, major corporations usually do not follow the laws of God......but that's another sermon......for today, I just want everyone to lift one hand in a circle, make a mini-telescope and look at something, anything....go ahead....try it......I guarantee that whatever you look at....is .......awesome.  ...The stained glass that we see the sunshine through.....The synagogue we just remodeled after five years of bickering...another person......maybe a friend, maybe a stranger, maybe family.......maybe a strange member of your family.....but all are incredible, every little thing has something amazing residing in it......

Because there is some 'awe' in everything.......

(He takes the telescope and puts it in his pocket. he turns to leave, stops, looks back))

There, I kept my promise to keep this short.......Get it?  We are in the Days of Awe and no long sermon is just plain....Awesome!

(He exits to a new year of awesome possibilities.)

Wishing all an awesome year!
