(A young man is walking looking around in horror.  He is Syrian, dressed in clothing that is not ripped, but not new.  And it is dusty, and he is sad.  He looks at the audience and shakes his head)

Yes, I did live here......until one year ago.  It was a beautiful city, family has lived here for generations, like the palms that grow....that grew......all gone.....

This was a great city, with merchants that traded on the Silk Road......the history is for centuries our people lived here, flourished here......all gone.....

(Sighs)  We were born to hate the make war with them, to be afraid of the Jews.  But who has come to destroy us?  Our own brothers in Islam......maybe they are not is a horror I still cannot believe......why would they do it?  They blew up the Lion of Al- lat!  And ....over there....

        (He points into the distance)

They destroyed the Temple of Baalshamin....     and even the Tower of Elahbel....a tomb!   The art is from other times, other cannot be replaced.......did they think they could change history by destroying what remains?  Only fools would think that......

(He looks around, shakes his head)

But the one thing they destroyed that matters to me the family's father was born in it, and my grandfather......gone......dust.....the rain destroyed all the belongings....I only took this....

(He takes something from his pocket)

This was on our front amulet for safety....for peace......

(He turns to leave, stops, looks back)

My family is still alive......maybe it did work....

(He takes it and waves, walks off......hopefully to a rebuilt peace someday)
