What an article! And in the New York Times!
(Reads)
Who Takes Care of the Caregiver?
A whole two pages! And someone got paid to do it! And I would have answered it for free! Because I'm a caregiver, and I work for free!
Such is life......Who takes care of the caregiver? (Laughs) I have a brother who is very sick, and he was on a 72-hour-hold last week when he was suicidal.......I took him in and there was a nice room and a bed, ok the door was always open, but there was a courtyard and a window, and food, and meds, and a shrink......72-hours away......lemme tell ya, if I told everyone I wanted to run away, what would that get me? A hotel room? Okay, maybe not 3 days away, but how about a.... massage? What about.....say.....a few hours off for a movie? Nah, everyone would feel I was loafing! That I wasn't doing my job........my job of taking care.......
(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)
You really want to know who takes care of us caregivers? I'll tell you who........ No one!
(Exits laughing - but soon maybe, things will change!)
