The Department of Time

Welcome, I see you have reached the next level in the attempt to be employed in the prestigious entry division of the ....Department of Time.
We are very particular here, some might call us ...picky. But there is a good reason for that - time is precious. Or so we have to let people believe. Because that is how we get paid - we must constantly teach that time cannot be wasted, that time is fleeting......even though....it is a lie.
For you see, we here in the Department of Time actually create time. We make the seconds, minutes and the hours....each one of us has a specific assignment related to the measurement of this time.....and the illusion of its value.
(Starts speaking more slowly)
How do we create time? Easy! We direct people into the areas which will force them to be aware of time. Doctors' offices, hospitals, traffic jams, religious services, meetings,....and our best invention ever......SCHOOL! Which culminates in the epitome of time creation.......higher education!
(Moves slowly to leave, stops, looks back)
Are you getting sleepy? That's good.......as time slows to a standstill.......you will feel your eyelids getting heavier......and heavier.......
(Exits......and so does the real world.....into a deep sleep!)
