Monologue Mania Day #1003 Not So Secret Ballot by Janet S. Tiger (c) Nov. 11, 2016
No, this is not about the election!  Well, maybe it is....because all the veteran's who have fought and served and died have done it for just this freedom.....thank you all!

(Actor enters emblazoned with ballots all over body)

You can see.....these are NOT secret ballots!  And that, my dear friends....is the problem!  In this great land of ours.....especially on Veteran's Day we have to remember that we have fought and died for the right to vote SECRETLY!

And, when we cast our ballots, that part is still hidden, the mail-in ballot in a sealed envelope, the punched or marked ballot on election day placed in dark boxes!  But the part that is worrisome is not the ballots you see here....it's the ones.....

(He pulls out a cell phone)

Here!  The polls!  They call and they ask you who you are voting for, well, I for one think the polls affect the election!  If people think their candidate is ahead, why run to vote?  Why wait in line?  Why take the time to mark a ballot....WHEN THE DECISION IS ALREADY MADE!

But it isn't!  Sometimes people hear about the person who is winning or losing....and they get scared and run to vote, even though the polls say differently.  Who wins then?  Someone other than the polls!  And who suffers?  We do!

So next election, how about this?  We all make a decision....when they call to ask you who you are voting for...JUST SAY NO!

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back, hisses)

Don't ask and don't tell....now there's a motto who's time has finally come.....

         (Exits to elections without polls)
