 Monologue Mania Day #953  by Janet S. Tiger (c) Sept. 22, 2016

                                             Maybellene
(with apologies to Chuck Berry and all people named Maybellene!)

(The actor swims onstage, looks around, stops, takes a deep breath.)

I was never afraid of the water.....but now, it's different........I can hear it before it touches me......

           (Swims away)

And I try to get away, but I can't because of the walls......

(Bumps into a wall, feels against it, swims away)

It's scary before anything happens.....and then, before I can even react......I can feel it.....touching me!

(Jumps back, tries to swim away)

(Screams)  And it is all over me....

          (Swats furiously)

And then.......(in horror)....its tentacle is around my neck!

(Reaches up, tries to get free, is being choked)

And I am drowning, and I can't breathe.....and then......

(Breathes heavily, wrestles, then gives up, falls lifeless to the ground, shaking at first, then still, with one last shudder, then sits up)

And my friend......, you can try to explain it all away, but.....that's why I won't go into the pool anymore.....

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)

(Amazed) What?  An octopus? (Laughs)  No! Do you think I'm crazy!  It's not an animal!  I know sea animals can't live in a POOL!    Of course it has a name......it's Maybellene - the pool vac!
Sheesh!

(Walks out, then starts to swim away.....to an empty pool)

-----------------------------------------------------

For those who wonder http://inhabitat.com/ravenous-robot-vacuum-tries-to-eat-its-owners-head/ truth can be stranger than fiction! And this swimming pool monologue is loosely based ......on a true story! (Well, almost true)
