Monologue Mania Day # 950 Forget Me Knot by Janet S. Tiger   Sept. 19, 2016

(The older actor stands holding a flower, looks at it)

What flower is this?  I forget......

Funny how that happens.......Fifteen years forgotten, locked away....in plain view.........a prison.....with no walls.......but many others keeping me company.....

No judge, no jury of my peers.......no trial......and yet.....all these years, away from reality......look how much has changed!  it's 2050!  I never thought I'd live this long......I never thought......Words evaded me.......because .....I never asked for this sentence......

Yet here I am, the result of modern medicine at its finest......while I was in prison, my wife died, and two of my children also died.....in an auto-driver car crash.......and so I emerge......to a world of 8 billion people and I am alone.....

My company was huge......when I was first ......what is a good word for what happened to me?  Chosen?    Convicted?   I set the autopilot for my vice-president....find the cure for this disease which robs people of their minds.....even while my mind was slowly disappearing.....

Now, fifteen years later.....I live, I think.....therefore I am......and yet......had I known then what I know now....would I have chosen this.....?  Success......

I remember the name of this flower....Forget me not.......How perfectly appropriate....only the word should be......

(Takes off the tie and ties it)

Forget me .....Knot......

(Turns to leave, stops, looks back)

How can you forget when you can't remember what you want...... to forget......

(He exits, holding the tie and flower, together, crushing them both and shaking his head at a conundrum we are very soon approaching)
