Monologue Mania Day # 1736 -1737 Untitled (more) by Janet S. Tiger (c) Nov. 17-18, 2018
The character of May - who has accepted the role of Director and Actor in the small town's community theater - is listening to auditions for the upcoming play.
MAY - (Cringing) Next!
(A young man stumbles onto the stage, he is VERY nervous)
MAY - Name!
JESSE - Um.......
MAY - Mr. Um, you may proceed!
JESSE - Um...
MAY - We know your name, Mr. Um......do your monologue!
JESSE - My name isn't Mr. Um.....it's Jesse......(Taking a deep breath)
MAY - Oh my God, not another one......
(In the background, we hear the start of...
JESSE - (Very hesitant) .To be .....or not to be.......
(As he speaks, we no longer hear him, but can see him doing the famous monologue in a heavy sweat, with lots of stumbling. May shakes her head and turns to the Pastor)
MAY - Just shoot me now!
PASTOR - Pardon?
MAY - I don't want a pardon! Just shoot! I\m sure someone in this town is carrying a weapon!
PASTOR - Maybe you could help him?
(She turns to the Pastor and they both laugh, hiding it from the struggling actor)
PASTOR - We do need male actors for Our Town....
MAY - If Shakespeare could dress men as women, I'll do the same in reverse....it's time!
(Turning to the actor)
MAY - That will be enough......(under her breath) more than enough!
PASTOR- Thank you! We'll get back to you!
(The actor brightens and another actor appears partly in the shadows)
MAY - How many more? Are we in hell?
PASTOR - This is the last one...
MAY - To quote you Pastor - thank God! All right young man....
DYLAN - Dylan Grantville......my monologue is Her Name.....
(He comes center stage, puts on a hat......he is holding a paper, as he turns around, he takes a deep breath and we see he commands the stage)
DYLAN - It says here that I am a young man....or old.....whatever I prefer.
So.....I prefer not to mention it. You will have to assume my age .....
Because this is not about me, it's about her.
Her name was......something or other.......
And I will never forget her.
She was......beautiful. That I remember.
And the moment we had was......burned into my memory.
We met on a sunfilled rainy day......and she left on a sad joyful night.
In between is a time that is like a flash of light, over in the blink of a heart.
A marker set in stone as she left. A marker that showed my youth...
and
When I started my life as a man..
(He closes the paper, takes off the hat and puts the paper inside, exits. May turns to the Pastor)
Dylan comes back and she looks at him)
MAY - Who wrote that monologue?
DYLAN - Dylan Grantville.....
(May nods and turns to the Pastor)
MAY - And that is what we wait for.......
(Lights down on the three as they start to go over the script. End of scene)

When this is a separate monologue-
(Young man enters....or old....whatever the actor prefers...he is holding a paper)
