(The actor enters in a whirl of activity - if possible spotlights and lots of cheers built in to the audience)

Thank you!  Thank you my dearest fans!  Oh, I love you all!  I am so happy to be here!  And there are a few other platitudes but I forgot them with all the love you are throwing at me!

(Sends some kisses into the crowd)

It is such a delight to be here, I've dreamed of this my whole life!  To be .....(says with extreme relish)....TFP..........TODAY'S FAMOUS PERSON!

Every fiber of my being - even the fiber I had for breakfast! - is quivering......my make-up, every ounce of clothing and my shoes, let's not forget my shoes!  Am I wearing them better than Kim Kardashian?  Please vote now!

If I get enough votes.....maybe I'll get to be...…TFP for tomorrow!

Fame, fortune, beauty, youth!  I've got it all!  Just like Bogey and Bacall!

(Does a little dance, bows.  Turns to leave, listens)

What have I done to be famous you ask?

What difference can it possibly make?

(Flounces off, to another moment of fame)

(This is a lively man, a man who is always in motion.  Not young, but not old, bubbly but not crazy, he is happy, sweeping onto the stage)

We are very busy, very busy!  It is the busiest day of the year for the costume business!  The day before Halloween!  Hurry everyone!  We are going to beat all our sales records....

(He sees a person coming, smiles)

Yes, how can we help you?

       (Listens, tries not to laugh)

Oh, no, there is no way that we could have that ready by tomorrow!  It is PHYSICALLY impossible!  And I realize that you want to have these costumes and perhaps if you had come in just a little sooner...I appreciate your business, my dear, but there is no way on heaven or earth....

       (Listens, shakes head)

I'm sorry, I just don't have time to taste anything right now, you can see how busy we are....

       (Indicates the surrounding crazy)

And I truly understand how you want the costumes and your desserts to match but....

        (Shaking head)

Please, I cannot try it now....

         (Getting more annoyed)

(Very strong)  You look like a nice person, and I see you have a dilemma, but you cannot think that bringing in some piece of chocolate will make me stop everything I am doing just to help you!  Now, please excuse me, I am busy!

(He tries to evade, but cannot get away)

Oh.....I am a bit hungry, but that's only because I haven't eaten since breakfast and that was HOURS ago......all right, just one bite.....that's all....it does look good....and smells good......

(He takes a small bite, very reluctantly)

Oh, my God.......

         (He almost writhes in ecstasy)

Oh, my God!!!!!

(He savors the bite, slowly, exquisitely, enjoying every bit)

This is like....ooooh...it's like.....public sex!  Without the getting arrested part!

(He eats the rest quickly, making noises of extreme pleasure, wiping his face afterwards)

Ah, there's even an afterglow!  And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how we started, the rest is history.....I invested and together, we have become the newest dessert company to have our own IPO!
Thank you!

(He turns to leave, stops, looks back)

The moral - always take a bite!  It could just be.....the next big nibble!

(He exits, we hear 'mmmmmm' as he relives the taste of success)

The bottom monologue was from yesterday, but leads into today's monologue, which is below.  It may be a play starting.....

Monologue Mania Day #632 by Janet S. Tiger  Nov. 5, 2015

                                                       Choices
                                                          (part 2)

(The young man enters, he is not quite as polite now, still nicely dressed, but with less veneer.  He holds out his hand to the audience)

Come on baby, this is a good spot.  I can always tell.  There's a lotta guys come by here, looking for a pretty girl like you....you can make a lotta money here......and you don't hafta worry, I'll take care of it all for you.....they pay me, they make any trouble, they hafta deal with me, and they won't like that, they'll treat you nice, and maybe you get a good tip.....

         (Gets harsher)

Look baby, we been through this before in Vegas, you saw how good it can be, and how it works, right?  You're my girl, and these guys, they just pay for time with you, it ain't no different if you were an actress, and they were paying to see a movie.....or if you were a big athlete and they pay to see you play tennis, you know?  No difference...

          (Tough)

You don't like it?  What choice you got, baby?  You wanna go home?  You wanna give up all the pretty clothes, the good stuff.....(he sniffs)....and the jewelry, and the shoes and.....me?

(He looks deep into the audience's eyes)

Do you really wanna give me up, baby?  To go back to those high school boys who never call you?  To the girls who won't talk to you?

You got a family now, a real family who loves you.....I love you, yeah, the other girls are to help make money for the family, because a family needs money right?  You like that money, baby, so you can have all these nice things......But I love you the most, baby, you know that.....don't tell the other girls, cause they could get jealous of you, it'll be our secret....secrets are good, they make us closer, right?  And close is better......you like being close to me.....I can tell.....love is so beautiful baby.....I'd never leave you....and you'll never leave me....that's how it goes......like Romeo and Juliet....forever.....

         (He leans in, smiling)

You know you like this life baby......you always wanted to do something cool.....you got it now...... you chose it, like you chose to be with me.... everything has its cost, baby, and you knew it when you took that first cigarette from me, we were meant to be together...forever.....

(He turns to leave, stops, looks back, now only business)

We need seven guys tonight, baby, so get to work.....and remember, don't worry about nothin'....because I'll be watchin' you......

(He exits looking back, lights down, end of scene)

(The young man is smooth but still has an air of jumpy, although tamped down.  He is nicely dressed, like one who would be going to a nightclub.  He takes out a cigarette and lights it, very sexy)

Hi, I saw you over here, standing, waiting for the bus.  Want a cigarette?

        (Offers, but is turned down)

Go on, no one will know, and you look cooler, you wanna look cool? Right now you just look pretty, but everyone wants to look cool...here....

(Offers again, this time the offer is accepted, he lights her up)

Smart girl!  Not too fast, you gotta go slow to start.....

         (He jumps back, laughs)

I told you....slow.....so you won't cough.....there, that's better.....feels good, right?  Lookin' good!  Here, see how cool you look?

(He takes out his phone, snaps a picture, shows her)

Oh, boy, you are so cool...and so hot!

(Thinks)  How long you gotta wait for this bus?  Ten hours?  I got an idea....you need a ride home?  I got my car over there.....I'll take you right home....no problem,

         (Listens, lifts his hands up)

No problem, I understand......you don't know me.....so here, my name is Javier.....just like that movie star....and what's  your name......that's a pretty name!  Marisol......I like that.....just like you, very pretty......you got a boyfriend?  ......oh, I'm surprised, pretty girl like you no boyfriend.......
I bet you gotta lotta guys running after you, so you don't choose yet, right? .......

Yeah, if I was running after you, I wouldn't quit till you were mine, just mine.  I wouldn't share you with anyone else......

You sure you wanna wait out here for that bus....I got a nice car....see....

      (He points)

I got money, too, to take care of things, like if I was your boyfriend, I'd get you some nice presents, perfume, some dancing shoes.....you like to dance....me, too!  How bout I have another idea.....I give you a ride home, and maybe you go out dancing with me....it'll be fun.....here, baby, look at me....

(He looks deep into the eyes of the audience)

I just wanna make you happy, so you don't have to wait out here in the cold, and we can have fun.....you'll see.....come on, whaddaya have to lose?  An hour waiting for a damn bus that may be late?  And then you have to have these weird people sit next to you, rub up against you......and sometimes they smell, right?  I've done my time riding on buses, no more!  That's why I hate to see a pretty girl like you......waiting .........how 'bout it, baby?

(He reaches out his hand, smiling)

You made a good choice, baby, you'll look back and see how smart you were.......

(He leads her off, looking back at the audience.)

And that, my friends, is how it's done......

         (Part one, part two below)

(The older woman comes onstage with a featherduster, and starts to dust.)

Ooh, this is so exciting!  No one has ever done an article on me...not one in the newspaper, but certainly not one that will be seen all over the Internet!  Yes, this is the room where I keep them all.....They do take a lot of dusting, but now that the children are all grown and gone, I can be here as much as I want......

             (She indicates with the duster)

That was my very first, my mother got it for me when I was a little girl.....my mother named me Florence because she hoped I'd be a nurse, you know like ....Florence Nightingale.  But I fainted at the sight of blood, it was my sister who became the nurse, and I, I didn't.

Yes, this one, the one my mother gave to me.....it's a little bit raggedy because of its age, and how I treated it less than kindly when I was a child!  But it started me on the saving path.......

       (Listens)

Yes, I've heard of that group.....since we have the same name, and it's so unusual, but I have no musical ability at all.....

I am a collector...that's what I do.  I collect.  When I realized I had absolutely no talent for things musical, medical, literary or for that matter, anything at all, So, I decided to do what I LIKED to do, and that was .....to collect.  I think that the world would be a much happier place if every person could find one thing they really like to do, and then do it.  No matter what.

          (Listens, looks around, thinking)

One thousand, two hundred, twenty six and counting......and each one has a story...If you'd like, I can share them with you....

          (Listens)

What an idea!  That would be a perfect title for your article - Florence and Her Time Machines!  How much more interesting than just clocks!

         (Listens)

Why clocks?

Why save clocks?  I thought it would be obvious!

(She turns to leave, stops looks back)

I save clocks because ......I want more time!

(She exits ....maybe to another dimension?)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For those who are not familiar with Florence and the Machine, you probably know her music because it's been in many movies and TV shows (Cosmic Love)

(The actor enters with a basket of gardening tools.  A tree or plant would be nice for this, but won't be essential.  The gardener sits and starts preparing)

When I was younger, I used to do many active things.  I liked to go dancing, and I loved sports.  Now...I garden. Because I figure it this way - if I drop dead in the middle of this activity, at least I land right where I'm going.  If the others in the family want to make it fancy - a pretty box, ashes and urns, that's their choice.  For me, leave me here in my garden and let the worms do their thing.

       (Looks and does some cutting)

Why do I like to garden?  It's like life as one ages, a classic case of the pruning process.  Oh, yes, when you want, you can plant something new, or dig up a section, but as the bones creak more, I prefer to get proficient at....pruning.  It helps me in  my everyday indoor life .....because aging is just one big pruning.

And I don't mean getting wrinkly!

No, with age, comes the need to prune.  One's food is the first......it becomes necessary to remove the urge to eat at buffets.  Hard to give up, but when you eat as if there's no tomorrow, there often is...no tomorrow.

So you learn to prune so many activities.  No longer can you touch your toes, let alone put on your shoes!  So, that is pruned to...slippers.  Activities that were easy and fun, like sex, suddenly you need to prune all those fancy moves......until one day, as a dear friend noticed, you will have the last sex of your life, and I just really appreciate him for mentioning this thought!  Way to go, Tom!

(Sweeping up the cut off parts)

And then, there's the pruning you don't have to do yourself, the kind where the dead parts just fall off the plants.....and your friends fade away.....and you look around and notice all the plants of your youth, have become the mulch of today.  The pruning process.....you could say....it's not only the wrinkles, it's also....the pits!

(Stands, turns to leave, stops, looks back)

And that is why I garden....I find it so very cheerful!

       (Exits to prune another day)

(The actor rushes onstage as if demons are following, looks around furtively, takes some papers out of a pocket and looks sadly)

Out out damned expiration date!  Why hast thou forsaken me oh coupons of my love!

(Takes the papers and scrunches them, grasping them to chest)

I didn't realize they expired yesterday, on Halloween!  The horror, the horror!  No ghosts or dragons or Frankensteins of the deep can equal the horror.....of an expiring coupon!

So sad, so sad.....do not go quietly into this dark night!  Rage, rage against the slow delivery of new coupons delight!

(Takes the coupons and drops them on the ground slowly, very slowly,
reverently)

For God's sake....and all of our sakes......

(Now jumps on the coupons violently)

And make those expiration dates larger!

(Exits laughing maniacally, another victim of expired couponitis)
