Monologue Mania Day #814 The Other Side of the Story by Janet S. Tiger (c) May 6,  2016

(The actress looks and walks and sounds like a modern Marilyn Monroe.  She glides onto the stage and send out a dazzling smile)

Oh, THERE you are, darling!  I'm not REALLY late..... I just thought I asked Maria to bring you into the library, but I guess there was a misunderstanding and she stuck you here in the living room, I've been in the library for the last half hour, reading of course, WAITING for you!

I just LOVE the press.....and now that I have this lovely place to entertain, I look FORWARD to having some big parties....and of course YOU would be a guest!

Now, you probably want to know why I agreed to talk with you.....WELLLLLL, here's the scoop.

YES, I am suing Winnie, I mean MR. Ridgely.....for ALL the things he promised me!  And I have every intention of getting everything, because a PROMISE is a PROMISE.  That's what I was taught.  And, after all..... I gave Winnie....Mr. Ridgely....the best five years of my life!  When a woman is in her twenties, she's YOUNG, but now, now that I'm 30, well, they can put botox and airbrush the old lady photos, but it is NEVER the same once you round that corner!

Not for men, of course, men ALWAYS look good.....take for example Hugh Hefner....he's like 100 now and VERY distinguished.....(thinking) I wonder if he's still married......but anyhow, Mr. Ridgely PROMISED to marry me and he PROMISED me this house, and the cars and OODLES of money, and I believed him!

And then one day, I was watching some old movies on TV - and there was one, called  BORN YESTERDAY....and the girl was pretty and the old man was mean, and she learned about the law.....and kept her ears open.....and she ended up VERY rich!

So, I decided....why not me?  Why not Miss Emerald Hogman from Tinytown Tennessee...Why not ME for a change? And so I paid attention....and boy, the things you learn when you keep your ears open!

I know what people are thinking about me - and I DON'T CARE!  Why is it so awful for little old me to ask for a MEASLY few million dollars when MR. RIDGELY earned 3 BILLION dollars from some silly mine ...what was the name again...sounded like...macaroni and cheese.....no...manganese!...and he knew the whole thing was a scam!    I'll bet they forget to call me names when they hear a few more of the underhanded, illegal and downright dirty schemes I am going to reveal to the press!  My momma used to say....Emmie...that was her nickname for me..(Southern accent)..Emmie....no matter how fancy the tuxedo, you never know how dirty the underpants are until you take a sniff!'

(She turns to leave, stops, looks back)

So you put it down loud and clear......I am not going away.....at least not without a lot of Mr. Ridgely's money, which, is truly hard-earned.....by me!
